A simplified way to look at what is coaching is to see it as a Reflective Conversation. It is a process that enables learning and development to occur and thus performance to improve. Coaching is not telling people what to do. It’s giving them a chance to examine what they are doing in light of their intention.

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as a partnership with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that Inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.

It is an ongoing professional relationship that helps people produce fulfilling results in their lives, careers, businesses or organizations

Coaching is an intentional relationship where a coach supports a client in developing vision and goals for their life. By utilizing multiple strategies to empower the client to use their personal power to discover their own solutions.

The nature of a coaching relationship is empowerment and accountability. It is assumed that the client desires to see real change in their lives. The coach, as a change expert, empowers the client to take control of their lives, fulfill their potential, and reach their goals.

Coaches challenge, stretch, push, and hold the client accountable all the while communicating an affirmation of “I believe in you.”
